Sin, Suffering, and Southern Gothic Humor:
Reading Flannery O’Connor During Lent
Churches across the country are linking Georgia writer Flannery O’Connor with the themes of Lent. Her stories show us ordinary, sometimes bizarre people, finding grace in the most unlikely places. A Catholic writing in the Bible Belt South of the 1950s and 60s, she explored the themes of sin, suffering, self-knowledge, and redemption using her unique brand of Southern Gothic humor.
Join us at 9:30 am in the Parish Hall as Mary Ann Wilson leads this series to discuss the following stories during the Sundays of Lent. Links will be provided.
**Feb. 18 – Introduction to Flannery O’Connor and Her World
**Feb. 25 – “A Good Man is Hard to Find” (1953)
**March 3 – “Good Country People” (1955)
**March 10 – “Revelation” (1964)
**March 17 – “Parker’s Back” (1965)
